On 23 August 2017, Melbourne University honoured and recognised new inductees to the Wilson Society at a dinner hosted by Vice-Chancellor, Professor Glyn Davis AC.
The Wilson Society recognises exceptional philanthropic support from donors to the University. The Society was established in 2015 and is named in honour of Sir Samuel Wilson who made a then-record gift of £30,000 to the University in 1874. Wilson Society affiliates have made significant gifts in support of all areas of the University.
100 guests, affiliates of the Wilson Society, Chancellor Allan Myers AC QC, Deans and senior academic and executive colleagues joined together to acknowledge and recognise the exceptional generosity of these donors.
Peter and Ruth McMullin were presented the Wilson Medal in recognition of their significant generosity to establish the world’s only academic centre devoted to the problem of statelessness, the Peter McMullin Centre on Statelessness. This is considered one of the most significant and visionary philanthropic initiatives in the history of the Melbourne Law School.
